Following up on the patient case I introduced in the Facial Acupuncture post, this time I’d like to share the body treatment session.

Patient’s Concerns

  • A sense of pelvic misalignment and discomfort

  • Pain in the sacroiliac joint, especially when fatigued

  • Tightness and pain in the left thigh

This patient has a history of tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while playing soccer. ACL injuries often leave lingering issues such as knee instability and a feeling of the joint “giving way” during sudden movements.

Step 1: Targeting the Sacroiliac Joint with Pelvic Adjustment

We first check the stiffness and mobility of the sacroiliac joint by gently palpating the area while the patient lies on their back. Through conditioning techniques such as massage and stretching, I gradually restore mobility before performing focused pelvic adjustment.

Step 2: Addressing Related Areas Beyond the Pelvis

Pelvic imbalance often causes tension in other parts of the body.

  • Tightness in the inguinal region (groin) was released with gentle pressure and lymphatic massage, which also improved hip joint movement.

  • The knee joint showed tension in the popliteus muscle (behind the knee). I relaxed this with massage and pressure therapy, along with carefully loosening the Achilles tendon.

Step 3: Using Electro-Acupuncture to Relax Deep Muscles

Acupuncture needles were inserted in the back, thighs, and around the knee, followed by electro-acupuncture with low-frequency stimulation.

Since the patient had well-developed muscles from their athletic background, the electro-acupuncture effectively reached deep layers, stimulating, warming, and loosening the tissue.

Supporting Athletes at BODYWORKS AZABU

I often treat athletes who experience unique physical imbalances from training or past injuries.

At BODYWORKS AZABU, I combine conditioning manual therapy, acupuncture, and myofascial release to accelerate recovery and maintain peak body function.
