Finger pain, numbness, tightness from the elbow to the hand, and muscle tension in the arm are common issues that may point to carpal tunnel syndrome.

This condition often affects people who use their hands and wrists for extended periods—such as chefs, hairstylists, florists, or athletes—but it can also occur in others.

Hormonal changes make women more susceptible, though men can be affected as well. Symptoms often worsen at night, impacting both work and daily life.

One patient, a hairstylist, experienced pain from the wrist to the elbow and numbness in her fingers, making it difficult to hold curling rods during hair treatments.

Step 1: Relieve tension in the forearm muscles

The patient had overactive pronator teres and brachioradialis muscles, which control wrist rotation. Tightness here makes wrist movements painful and reduces control. I gently loosened these muscles to ease tension along the entire arm.

Step 2: Improve wrist mobility

The carpal bones were very stiff. By alternating gentle movements on the front and back of the wrist, tension was gradually released and mobility improved.

Step 3: Check rotational movement of the arm

I carefully monitored internal and external rotation of the arm, gradually increasing range of motion and relaxation while ensuring movements were comfortable.

Step 4: Acupuncture and electric stimulation for deep muscle relief

Acupuncture was applied to the brachioradialis, with mild electrical pulses to reach deep muscle layers. This effectively relieved tension and promoted circulation.

Final Note: Don’t give up on occupational discomfort

Carpal tunnel syndrome, if left untreated, can interfere not only with work but also daily activities such as buttoning clothes, handling zippers, picking up keys, or opening containers.

This patient reported significant improvement in pain, numbness, and tightness after just a few visits.

Early intervention is key to preventing chronic symptoms.

If you experience similar discomfort, professional evaluation and treatment can help restore hand function and improve quality of life.
